What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding means keeping people safe from harm, abuse, or neglect.

Working with our local councils, we (emh), must protect adults aged 18 and over who:

  • Need care and support
  • Are at risk of abuse or neglect

 

What do I do if...

Tell someone you trust. Call the police on 999 if you are in danger.

Call the police on 101 or tell your local council safeguarding team.

Say “No” if you can. Tell someone you trust. Call 999 if you feel unsafe.

What is abuse?

Abuse is when someone hurts you or treats you badly. It is always wrong.

  • Physical (hitting, kicking)
  • Emotional (saying nasty things, bullying)
  • Financial (taking your money or things)
  • Sexual (touching you when you don’t want it)
  • Neglect (not giving you the care you need)
  • Domestic abuse
  • Discrimination
  • Organisational abuse
  • Cuckooing (someone takes over your home).

  • Your local council’s Adult Safeguarding Team
  • NHS Safeguarding App
  • If you are an emh Care & Support customer or guardian, contact your care service manager in the first instance. Call 01246 599999 or email centralhub@emh.co.uk

  • Someone will listen to you and take your concern seriously.
  • They will check if you are safe right now.
  • They may talk to other people who can help, like doctors or social workers.
  • They will make a plan to keep you safe and stop the abuse.
