An emh housing officer has been recognised as one of the most outstanding resident-facing professionals in the housing sector.

Matt Smith, who was recently promoted to Senior Housing Officer, has been named in the prestigious Inside Housing Management 30 (IHM30) list, which celebrates 30 housing professionals who are making a significant difference for residents and communities across the country.

The annual list recognises individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation and impact in resident-facing roles.

Winners are nominated by colleagues and peers before being selected by an expert panel of judges from across the housing sector.

Matt joined emh in 2023 as a Graduate Housing Officer through the GEM Programme and has quickly established a strong track record of supporting residents and delivering positive outcomes.

Among the achievements highlighted by the judges was a furniture recycling scheme developed by Matt, alongside colleagues Grace Nicholls and Becky Clarke.

The initiative helps residents moving into new homes access affordable essential household items through a voucher scheme, providing practical support at the start of their tenancy.

Matt was also recognised for his work supporting residents with complex needs and his contribution to early intervention approaches that help address anti-social behaviour and sustain tenancies.

The judges praised Matt's commitment to residents, stating: “Matthew consistently demonstrates professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to resident outcomes.”

Reflecting on the recognition, Matt said: “It’s an honour to be included in the IHM30 alongside so many inspiring individuals. Every person on this list is doing genuinely innovative work that makes a meaningful difference to residents every day, and to be recognised alongside them is a true privilege.

“I am deeply grateful to emh for investing in my growth and providing the opportunities that made this milestone possible, and to my fantastic colleagues who have supported and uplifted me since the start.”

Matt is currently studying towards an ILM Level 3 qualification in Leadership and Management as part of his ongoing professional development. His recognition reflects emh’s continued commitment to delivering excellent services and investing in colleagues who make a positive difference to residents' lives.
